The Award scheme: Bronze, Silver and…the Green Flag

Three levels of award

 

 

 

There are three award levels in the Eco Schools programme. The first level of the Eco Schools award is the Bronze Award certificate and the Silver Award certificate is the next level. These certificates can be gained by putting the ‘Seven Elements’ into practice and making a start on an Eco-topic. The top award is the Green Flag Award, which is given to schools that have managed to integrate the Eco Schools programme into their school very well.

 

 

 

 

Assessment

   

 

Your school can apply for any of these awards depending on how much you think your school has achieved. It’s a good idea to have a look at the criteria for each award and compare this to how your school is doing.

 

 

The Bronze and Silver Award are self-assessed by the school. The Green Flag Award is slightly more work. Your school must fill out an application form for the Green Flag award and if this is successful you will receive a visit from an assessor to have a look at the school. Assessors like to meet you, the pupils and hear what you have learned through the Eco Schools programme in your school. Your school doesn’t have to be perfect, pheuff. Instead, you must be making an effort to become an Eco School.

 

 

If you are successful and receive the Green Flag Award you will be given a green flag to display around the school. You will also receive a certificate and the office staff will receive an Eco Schools logo to use on all of your school letters.

 

 

The Green Flag Award lasts for two years. After two years your school must reapply to renew the Green Flag Award. After three renewals, on your forth Green Flag award, you become a permanent Green Flag Eco School.
